Designated inspectors, equipped with special devices, conduct random checks on the platform and in the trains. During these checks, the inspector may request the necessary public documents verifying the passenger’s identity and/or the documents justifying their entitlement to a reduced fare or free travel. Passengers who fail to possess or validate a valid ticket will be subject to a fine, as per current legislation, imposed by authorized fare inspectors.

Points of supply of tickets and cards

A total of 5 ticket offices and 104 automated ticket vending machines are available across all Metro stations. Tickets can only be purchased and reloaded through the automated machines for faster and more efficient service.

Please make sure to collect the receipt of your transaction, as it serves as proof of completion of the process.

Beneficiaries of free or partially reduced fare transportation must also present, in addition to their Police ID or Driver’s License, the necessary documents as specified on the OSETH website.

Validation Of Tickets and Cards
  • The validation machines are located at the entry-exit gates of the stations and validating your electronic ticket or card at the optical reader activates the gate to open.
  • Validate twice (2) during your journey: once when entering through the validation machines and once when exiting.
  • Throughout the validity period of the electronic ticket, validate every time you pass through the validation machines upon entering and exiting.
  • Proper validation of the electronic ticket means placing it on the designated reader at the validation machines within the stations. If the card or ticket is rejected by a validation machine, wait until the light stops blinking and try again.
For more details about purchasing, using, and recharging the electronic ticket & card and for other useful information, visit the THeTA portal (www.oseth.com.gr/en)
