We inform the public that the base line of the Thessaloniki Metro will remain temporarily out of passenger service from Friday, May 29 through Friday, June 19, 2026, in order to ensure the safe and uninterrupted completion of the necessary testing and inspections of the new systems and train operations on the section of the project being extended toward Kalamaria.
Further information will be provided for cardholders with an active travel pass (30, 90, and 180 days) regarding the process for extending the validity of their pass by an equivalent period for the time mentioned above.

All tickets and personalized cards can be loaded and reloaded at the automatic ticket vending machines located in the stations.

Designated inspectors, equipped with special devices, conduct random checks on the platform and in the trains. During these checks, the inspector may request the necessary public documents verifying the passenger’s identity and/or the documents justifying their entitlement to a reduced fare or free travel. Passengers who fail to possess or validate a valid ticket will be subject to a fine, as per current legislation, imposed by authorized fare inspectors.
A total of 5 ticket offices and 104 automated ticket vending machines are available across all Metro stations. Tickets can only be purchased and reloaded through the automated machines for faster and more efficient service.
Please make sure to collect the receipt of your transaction, as it serves as proof of completion of the process.
Beneficiaries of free or partially reduced fare transportation must also present, in addition to their Police ID or Driver’s License, the necessary documents as specified on the OSETH website.
