Useful Tips for Thessaloniki Metro

For a safe, smooth, and pleasant journey, please follow the instructions below:

On Escalators
  • Stand on the right side of the escalators to allow those who wish to move ahead to pass on the left. This helps facilitate the movement of all passengers.
  • Leave one step between yourself and the passenger in front to avoid crowding and prevent accidents.
  • To help with the passenger flow, avoid standing at the end of the escalators, allowing passengers behind you to move forward
  • According to the passenger regulations, passengers with strollers or bicycles, can only use elevators, while the use of escalators is prohibited.
  • For safety reasons, elderly passengers and individuals with mobility or visual impairments are recommended to use the elevator instead of the escalator.
  • Passengers accompanied by assistance dogs are also recommended to use the elevator to protect their animals from potential accidents.
On the Platform
  • While waiting for the train, avoid crowding near the closest automatic doors and move along the platform to ensure smooth boarding and disembarking for all passengers.
Boarding and Disembarking
  • When the train arrives, step away from the automatic doors. Give priority to passengers disembarking so they can exit quickly. Once they have exited, approach and board the train.
  • Board the train promptly to avoid delays in the closing of the doors.
During the Journey
  • Move toward the center of the train and avoid standing in front of the doors to make room for passengers boarding or disembarking at the next stop.
Automatic Doors
  • Step away and do not obstruct the closing of the automatic doors after the audible warning signal.
  • Any action that obstructs the operation of the automatic doors (on the train or platform) causes delays, as trains depart only when the doors have closed safely.
  • Avoid boarding trains that are overcrowded.

By following these guidelines, we contribute to the smooth service and safe transportation of all passengers.

The Thessaloniki Metro, with the primary goal of protecting human life and enhancing the safety of passengers and visitors, is equipped with two Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at each station, one at platform level and one at ticket hall level.
