The Thessaloniki Metro is evolving through a comprehensive strategic plan that will reshape transportation in the city by 2040. This strategic plan is based on the “Thessaloniki Metro Development Study (MAMTH)”, which was implemented by Elliniko Metro with funding from the EU Structural Funds (ESPA). It is a comprehensive Transportation Study aimed at formulating a Transportation Plan for the city of Thessaloniki, with 2040 as the target year.
The study was conducted over two years (2021-2023), during which the transportation patterns of 30,000 household members in the city were recorded, interviews were conducted with 67,000 car drivers and taxi passengers, and 690 km of road network were surveyed.
The results of this study highlight the need for a reconfiguration of the transportation network to cover the entire city with modern public transport services, the creation of two Metro lines with 44 Stations, and the extension of the network to the areas of Western and Eastern Thessaloniki. It offers a clear reflection of the future needs and forms the core of the planning for the coming years, aiming at shaping a friendly, human-centered, and functional city that cares for the environment, its citizens, and future generations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
